We were raised to believe that a large part of having “The American Dream” is to buy a home. We are told that a home is an asset, and that a mortgage is the smartest kind of debt. According to Housing Wire, there are $15.8 Trillion in outstanding mortgage loans. You were not told that your home is really an asset for Your Lender! When you buy a home with a conventional mortgage, you will pay 70% of what you borrowed in interest (most of that in the first third)! That is without refinancing, second mortgages, HELOC’s, loan consolidations, and so forth.
